Taking a break in the work day to meet the hubby for an outdoor lunch is great! The weather is always cool and after being stuck in an office all day the cold air is refreshing.
Everyday we meet halfway which happens to be the perfect lunch spot:
St. George's Churchyard Gardens with a nice view of the church itself.
The original church goes back to the Norman times but was rebuilt in the 14th century. Then it was damaged during World War II, so again it was restored in the 1950's. In the mornings on my walk to work, this church clock tower is very helpful! I often forget my phone, and not having a watch I just need to look up to know what time it is :)
It's such an interesting garden, as it has old tombstones laying around and recycled crushed glass designs.
The other interesting thing about this garden is the walls that enclose it.
"Beyond this old wall is the site of the old Marshalsea Prison, closed in 1842. This sign is attached to a remnant of the prison wall. Charles Dickens, whose father had been imprisoned here for debt in 1824, used that experience as the Mashalsea setting for his novel Little Dorrit."
